Browns Land Astronaut to Battle Patriots

After the Princess Warrior turned down the vacant Cleveland Browns head coaching position, Browns owner Randy Lerner looked skyward to land NASA astronaut Donald Thomas to replace Butch Davis in time for Sunday's blast off versus the Galaxy Champion New England Patriots.

Lerner is quoted on coaching change in the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

"After giving up 58 points to the Bengals of all teams, we thought a change in celestial navigation was in order. Donald Thomas plans to bring an interplanetary approach to Defense that was absent under Butch Davis."

Winning in the Rain

After a 3-3 first half, the Patriots poured it on like the weather in the second half with a 24-3 victory over the Baltimore Ravens at Gillette Stadium. Michael Smith of espn.com files a game report.

Defense still wins championships. But a championship-caliber defense alone couldn't come into Gillette Stadium on Sunday and beat the world champion Patriots.

Baltimore's defensive players should all be suffering from figurative back pain following their 24-3 loss. Once again, they were asked to carry the one-dimensional Ravens by themselves. In the second half, the burden got a bit too heavy. They buckled.

"Clearly," Ravens coach Brian Billick said afterward, "we weren't a good enough football team today to compete with a championship team."
